Description
I was at Crown Bay Marina in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands while the ever impressive Schooner Columbia was at dock. A vessel that begs to be photographed.
She is a steel replica of historic 141-foot wooden Gloucester Fishing Schooner. The original Columbia challenged the Bluenose in the 1923 Fishermen’s Cup Races in Halifax and was narrowly defeated. In 1927 she was lost in a gale near near Sable Island; the “Graveyard of the Atlantic".
Decades later she was rebuilt at the Eastern Ship Building Group in Florida and launched in 2014.
